How about we get on the road and drive along those endless roads, cutting through those green Tuscan fields?

Today’s itinerary will take us to Chianti, Montalcino, Siena and several other towns and vineyards in Tuscany.

First Day Of Travel

For this itinerary we recommend that you rent a car to continue your trip. Starting from Florence and heading towards Chiantigiana, the postcard of Tuscany. This route is also known as the SR222, it is along this route that you will see those green fields, full of grapevines. If you go to the secondary entrances you will come across numerous wineries in the region.

Montefioralle

Our first stop will be a territory of Greve in Chianti, which is a region famous for the production of classic Chianti, which is a famous wine, much appreciated around the world.

In this region there are several villages, medieval towns like Montefioralle, which is one of the most beautiful medieval borgos in Italy.

What is a borgo? Borgo is a small inhabited centre, like a small village.

Today, Montefioralle has only 100 inhabitants, but many years ago, one of the residents was Amerigo Vespucci, the man who gave the name to the American continent. Leonardo Da Vinci also walked these streets. This small village is supposed to have belonged to the family of Monalisa, the same as in the painting.

Vignamaggio

After Montefioralle, we will go to Vignamaggio, which is a 14th century villa where you can stay, and from the terrace of the building, they say you can see the vineyards and hills that make up the painting of the Monalisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, since that is where Miss Lisa and her family lived. Hence Da Vinci would have been inspired by this work.

Panzano

From there we will continue to Panzano, another medieval town, it looks like a scene from a movie, and there we will visit ANTICA MACELLERIA CECCHINI, a very famous meat house, where even Elton Jhon was a client.

Montalcino

The journey continues to Montalcino, city of the famous Brunell wine.

Remembering that within these small towns you have restrictions to circulate with the car within the historical centre at some times, so it is always good to stay tuned to the unlimited traffic zone, so you don’t get fined and don’t get inconvenienced in your trip.

This also goes for Siena, which is the city where we suggest you stay, you can stay at the NH Hotel, which is right in the historic centre, close to the main tourist attractions. As you will probably arrive in Siena at night, look for somewhere to have dinner and then go to your hotel to sleep.

Second Day Of Travel

On this day you’ll wake up early, have a hearty breakfast and explore Siena. Start with the Basilica of Saint Dominic, where you will find the mummified head and finger of Saint Catherine.

Then, you can head for Bianchi di Sopra street, one of the busiest streets in Siena and leading to Piazza del Campo which has always been the heart of the city. Since the middle ages, in this very spot, the Palio di Siena takes place, a horse race around the square. This race takes place twice a year, on 2 July and 16 August. It is the main event of the city.

After that we will finally visit the Duomo di Siena, or Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which is another magnificent construction, considered one of the most imposing works of art in Italy, with sculptures by Michelangelo, Donatello and many other works of art. The ticket to visit the cathedral costs 17 euros.
