In this article we will explain what are the ways to enter Italy for tourism. Beforehand we already say that you will possibly need to spend some authorized days. Here we will show you where to consult the best information and how to make a trip to Italy.

The first point you should be aware of is that the rules mentioned were published in the Ordinance issued by the Italian Ministry of Health on 14/December/2021 with validity until 31/January/2022. How does Italy authorise the entry of passengers coming from other countries?

They use the risk rating system in the form of a list. This list ranks countries from A to E and places each country in a category. For countries not listed, they may automatically be placed in Category E.

If your country is in Category E it is not allowed to enter Italy for tourism purposes, however, it is possible to enter provided you meet certain requirements.

Passengers coming from Category E countries may only enter Italy for the following reasons:

Valid from 16/December/2021 to 31/January/2022

  • Work
  • Health
  • Absolute Urgency
  • Return to Domicile/Residents
  • Relationship with citizen/resident in Italy

Documents required to enter Italy

If you fit some of these requirements, here are some necessary documents:

  • Passenger Tracking Form
  • Negative test (PCR at 72hours / antigen at 24hours)
  • Children under 6 are exempt from testing
  • On arrival, isolate for 10 days. At the end of isolation should do test and be negative
  • Going to the final destination by own vehicle
  • Communicate the region where you will be staying.

Other ways of entering Italy

  • Staying the last 14 days in countries listed in Category C/D

Category C: European countries

  • PCR 48hrs / antigen 24hrs
  • Vaccination certificate
  • Passenger form
  • For unvaccinated: 5-day quarantine + test after isolation
